The central location of the Wisconsin Rapids Area offers various opportunities for sporting events. Our area has many unique sports facilities such as: Dyracuse Off-Road Park and Recreational Area which provides miles of trails for motorcycles and ATV; Central Wisconsin BMX which was selected to host the Badger State National in 2010 and once again in 2012; every July at Lake Wazeecha/Red Sands Beach which is part of the South Wood County Park provides the perfect landscape for the Wisconsin State Water-Ski Show Championships, which just happens to be the largest water-ski competition in the world; and lets not forget the newest addition to the area, of a Wisconsin Trapshooting Association Shooting Complex and Learning Center which held the 2013 Wisconsin State Shoot and will become the associations permanent home. Also, we’ve hosted various high school (WIAA) events including: track, cross-country, wrestling, and gymnastics.
The Wisconsin Rapids Area has a Sports Commission that works with various local organizations in hosting events, including the Wisconsin Rapids Area Convention and Visitors Bureau (WRACVB). They provide assistance with bids, room blocks, media, marketing, volunteers and more. The community is experienced in hosting and running sporting events, along with successfully coordinating community-wide activities for participants. With over 30,000 acres of county owned land in parks and forests, there are many facilities that provide opportunities for various recreational activities. Our area is know as cranberry county because we are the largest cranberry producers in the world so it’s not unusual for participants to take in a drive down our Cranberry Highway™ while in the area.
